IAA 19

Project participants Univ.-Prof. Dr. Leopold Füreder, Eng. Ivan Botev, Dr.Luis Popa and Dr.Oana Popa participated in the 19th Symposium of International Association of Astacology (IAA), which was held on 26-31 August, 2012, in Innsbruck, Austria  http://www.uibk.ac.at/ecology/events/iaa19/index.html.en.

The symposium was attended by 118 researchers from Asia, Australia, Europe, North and South America who presented 53 oral and 43 poster presentations related to crayfish genetics, systematics, biology, ecology, diseases, threats, invasive species, management and conservation. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Leopold Füreder and Ivan Botev presented a poster entitled "Recent data on crayfish (Decapoda: Astacidae) distribution in Bulgaria" co-authored by Z. Hubenov, T. Trichkova, L. Kenderov, D. Kozuharov, M. Todorov and C. Deltshev.

The Symposium participants celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the IAA. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Leopold Füreder was elected as President of IAA for the next two years.

During the Symposium an exhibition of live crayfish was organized. The post-symposium excursion included visit of natural habitats of three native crayfish species, Astacus astacus, Austropotamobius torrentium and A. pallipes, visit of the Natural Park "Tiroler Lech" near Reutte Town and visit of crayfish farm at Rottach Reservoir in Germany.
