GIS Training Course
Within the scope of the project and within the scope of Memorandum for Collaboration between the Hydrobiological Institute Ohrid and IBER-BAS, a training course on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) was held in Sofia in the period 19-30 June 2011. The training covered the following topics: Introduction to GIS; open source GIS – characteristics; introduction to Quantum GIS and GRASS; creation of geographic data; georeferencing; data query and SQL; digital cartography and visualization; Internet based GIS and DBMS; and data interoperability – WMS, WFS and WCS. The training was carried out by Dr Alexander Kotsev from the Cartography and GIS Department, Faculty of Geology and Geography at Sofia University; the course was attended by project participants from Bulgaria and R. Macedonia. The GIS training will facilitate the project work and will contribute to the development of the online GIS database of Dreissena distribution in Bulgaria.
